Abstract
Upper gastrointestinal bleed is a surgical emergency and so is bowel obstruction. However, a massive upper gastrointestinal bleed forming a large hematoma in the lumen of the bowel and presenting with obstruction is a rare event. The hematoma in the bowel is more often noted in the small intestine and is usually intramural, either following trauma or anticoagulation treatment, with few reported cases in literature for intraluminal hematoma. We present a case of large duodenal hematoma extending up to the duodenojejunal flexure causing bowel obstruction and obstructive jaundice due to its compression over the ampulla of Vater.
